Hi colinbos

A battery disconnect made no difference for me. The same four buttons that you're missing remained unlit at night.
Just like binty I bought a new bulb from my dealer, having removed the old bulb so I could get an exact match. The bulb was about £8. I'm 95% sure it was the bulb you see if you click the heater controls in the diagram on this page (part no. 30739358):

A single bulb illuminates all four demist/seatheater buttons.

Within two days of replacing that bulb, the bulb in the middle of the 'Select' knob in the radio stopped working, so I've got to go through it all again.

For anybody else who finds this thread, I've just added a guide to help identify the correct bulb type for the centre console without having to take the whole bloody thing apart just to be able to order the right replacement: https://www.volvoforums.org.uk/showthread.php?t=276521

So: Call me a cheapskate, but.
There was no way I was paying in excess of £5 each for a Volvo bulb.
So I bought replacement bulbs to fit back into the Volvo housing. Worked a treat.

I did find that one of the bulbs which wasn't working was due to a bad connection; as I removed it, it came back on.

2 teenage kids.....yep, funds are always tight.
Plus, on principle, I won't buy pay for something like the original fitment if it is just a blown bulb.
It literally took 1 minute more than just a swap out.

The top corner bulbs on the aircon panel (for seat heating and front and rear demister, AND top left - manual-auto button - both in white holders) are also available at Maplin, for those that don't want to wait for postage.
