Smile 2008 XC90 engine mounts

I have a 2008 XC90 d5 which has done 99k, there is quite a lot of vibration going through the car at idle, I have looked at the rubber gearbox stop for clearance and the gearbox is sat on it. Any ideas on which mount is at fault, and recommendations for replacement makes.

Also there is a jolt when going into reverse.

Probably all of them! But definitely the rear (vacuum) pad. Get genuine Volvo parts.

Very quick and simple to test each vacuum mount and I've seen the gearbox resting on the subframe when only the front mount has failed .
The rears do seem more prone but I wouldn't assume that either mount is more to blame when elimination is straightforward.

I recently replaced the front right mount (below cambelt etc) and this solved a host of vibration issues (idling and under acceleration). The rubber on the old mount was completely shot and rather than offering insulation there was metal to metal contact. A easy job.

What types of vibration would be experienced if one or all of the mounts were wore,my xc90 is vibrating when stopped in traffic, foot on brake and in drive, any most likely culprit for that issue ?

Ive replaced all the mounts on mine. Yes i have reduced a lot of vibration, is there some left, yes, slightly through the steering wheel. Its not rocking, but i know the engines on.

As already mentioned, ALL mounts will add to/reduce vibration, and some engines looked after getter than others will idle better, being less worn etc etc.

The rear mount takes most of the weight of the engine.

Maybe check your vacuum system. Does your vacuum cut out over 1500 revs like it should, and kick in when idling ?

Theres lots of things that could be causing rough idle and vibration.

My front torque mount was shot, metal on metal

Symptoms: metallic clang when the gearbox released the load on the engine when slowing down to a stop, due to the shifting of the motor.
I feared many things were wrong like gearbox slop, drive-train issues, etc.
But it was just the mount, easy to replace.

A bit of improvement in vibration, but still some present

I might check my top torque mount to see if it also is due for replacement....

I tested the vacuum in my mounts and they don't register a pressure so they are shot by the look of it,could them not holding the vacuum cause the vibration I described ?

Absolutely.

BUT, is it the rubber pipe at fault or the mount?

If you've plugged directly into the mount, then ok the mount is shot, but be aware if you haven't, that it could be the pipe is leaking, not the mount.

Plugged directly into the mounts, the front one was easy to get to but the rear one was a pain but managed it,both held no vacuum😳
It runs at idle without very much vibration but it's noticeable when in drive but stationary with the foot brake pressed, that's why I'm rather in the dark ?
