Radio Reception in my 745
Hi all,
Seems to all be going well with the 745, but have to say the radio reception is dreadful - is this a common/known issue? Tried a couple of known good head units just to be on the safe side. Car has a standard antenna mounted on the D pillar - have seen mentions of an aerial amp when googling, does anyone know if these had one fitted? Thanks in advance! |

You shouldn't have any reception problems whatsoever.
As far as I am aware 745's didn't have an antennae amplifier. That was for later 900 Series (and others) with the antennae built into the cargo space rear n/s window glass. What year car and, what do you call a 'stadard' antenna? Orginal or after market, electric or just a mast? A photo/s would assist. Bob. Last edited by bob12; Aug 9th, 2022 at 22:56. |

That's not an oem Volvo aerial. I assume it's not electric.
I would suggest it's been fitted as a replacement for a broken stub mast (which did not extend), assuming the original Volvo mast was not electric. Here's two pictures of a Volvo electric mast exterior fitment and an electric mast. Both the electric and stub masts have similar black bases but, the one for the stub mast is slightly smaller. My '90 745 was originally fitted with a stub mast but it got broken (several times!!) until it was impossible to get a good connection so I acquire a Volvo electric aerial that fits in/under the trap in cargo floor space lefthand well. You will find all the electric wiring is inplace to fit an electric aerial even that for an over-ride switch on the dash. For starters I would suggest pulling off the plastic trim up the n/s D pillar and see what's going on with the mast and its connection/s. Bob Last edited by bob12; Aug 16th, 2022 at 19:08. |
