Engine mounts
What's people's experience with 123 GT engine mounts? Just replace my tired old standard ones and the car vibrates horribly
Didn't go for competition version thought the GT's might have been a tad stiffer Did I mess something up ? |

RiM;
I don't believe 123GT mounts are any different (a quick check of PNs would confirm this), but I know the mounts for the 6 cyl cars were of higher durometer...I use and prefer these...I can't say I feel any increase in the vibration transferred into chassis there were warnings of. I can't speculate why you are feeling increased vibration with new standard mounts. Did you also replace the Geabox Mount? Cheers |

I guess you got them from Brookhouse. Certainly Simon sells GT and standard ones. Logic might say GT ones are stiffer/harder. 123GT owners might be able to comment. Some have used Land Rover ones and these can be very cheap but you take a chance on the hardness. These are well reviewed and are about the same price as the Brookhouse ones. Money back if not happy but that may be for LR owners!

Thanks Derek
Yes they came from BH No I didn't change gearbox I think I will loosen all the bolts and run the engine just to see if i have the engine off center, if that doesn't help I might put the old ones back and see if that cures it Reason I changed them is I'm running a different airbox and the old mounts let the engine move too much allowing airbox to touch the steering column joint |

I put some Land Rover ones on my Amazon years ago as they were so cheap, but I took them off about half a mile later due to how horrible they were..they made everything vibrate and I'm sure one of my fillings is now in the same netherworld as my door winder clip.

Rust, you appear to have the same Amazon Estate as me but mine is a '67 121 but now also with twin carbs. I also have a late type air cleaner box that I keep saying I will fit. Is that the same as you have? SU needle change recommended for the SU's with that filter. From KD to KF I think but you may have KN's in.
An extra or thicker washer on the carb side mount may allow the filter to clear the steering shaft or coupling. |

National Rally and BKV at Stratford on Avon.
I noticed in the latest Volvo mag. that Tony Grestock won the BKV award with his immaculate red PV544. I would love to know more about the car and whether Tony did the renovation himself or did in fact buy the car in its stunning state.
