Easily forgotten in a headlamp rebuild, or possibly long rusted away.
Hi yeah - they are both there but loose

Maybe I just need to get them adhered better?

I’ve also lost one of the supports that sits on the arm to stop the blade twisting - used tie wraps to strengthen

Running rich or lean shouldn't cause engine temperature to rise.

Can’t get the dizzy to move atm as it’s corroded to the block so putting some penetrating fluid on it from time to time
Leave it, corroded means it hasn't slipped. But your timing belt might have jumped a tooth or the bastard rubber crank pully might have karked...

However much more likely to be cooling system related. Flushed the rad recently? Sticky thermostat? Cooling fan clutch not working? Loose w/pump belt? Out of coolant?

Don't know 'bout the lousy mpg.

I also bought a replacement fuel cap

Mine is mottled somehow - i saw someone was breaking a car the same colour as mine and bought the fuel cap

Mine

And the new one (this one has a small mark on the lacquer

The colour match is pretty close - with it being metallic it makes it hard so will see how it polishes up.

Really easy swap thoigh

1 x large Philips inside the recess and 2 on the hinge attaching to the body

5 min job

Water pump changed

Thermostat changed

Coolant flushed

New coolant

(All within last 100miles)

Maybe still some air in the system

Every volvo I've had (340 -> S70) I've spent a fortune on repairing and fixing the headlight wipers. I've come to the conclusion I'm never going to drive my 240 in heavy snow, so have happily deleted and removed the entire assembly. Never did the American and Canadians any harm, as they never got 240s with headlight wipers...

Good luck with your efforts, and try not to cry when you find out how much the little clips on the end of the arm cost...

Hmm, does.your cooling fan kick in? You can't miss it unless.you're profoundly deaf... Just observing you overheat at low speeds and after a long run, but not at highway speeds.

Next time it gets toasty, pop the bonnet and see if the cooling fan is making more noise than usual; it should, if it isn't then test the fan clutch by dragging the hub with a pencil (mind yer fingers/hair/necktie), it shoudn't slow down.

Cheapy replacement if you need a new one (dude accepts £25) https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/183405201197

Yeah the fan spins and isn’t noisy - I’ll give it a few more miles and see if it settles as it was fine before I went on holiday

Fan should be noisy when engine gets hot. Should sound like a bus when the clutch engages and the fan spins at engine speed. The rest of the time it spins, but the fluid clutch slips it so it rotates slower than engine speed and puts less drag on the engine.

If your cooling fan clutch is kaka, the fan still spins but doesn't engage at high temperatures to give the cooling boost needed.

Oooh - what “actuates” the clutch?

I’ll give it a test tomorrow
