Default Replacement key for 2004 V70

I've just bought a 2004 V70 and need to get a complete replacement key. Having searched for these, I can't find what I feel would be a reliable option other than going to a main dealer. Any suggestions about getting genuine keys complete would be very welcome.

Thanks

A new key for my old 2004 v70 ended up costing me £35,000!

I went into the local dealer to get a replacement key and ended up with a new XC60. Great car and they gave me a good trade-in against the v70.

Ah, the key - it should have been £225 but I argued with Volvo and I paid £75.

A decent locksmiths should be able to supply and chip a key.

The issue may be that the key is foldback key which doesn't drill holes in the pocket and also it contains the remote lock/unlock, etc. It also needs to be registered to the car - there may be some clever way to do this yourself though.

All the locksmiths that I tried said no way

As I said a DECENT locksmith, it doesn't need to be registered to the car just chipped using the original key to copy the chip onto the new key fob.
The fact that it is a folding key makes no difference to cutting a new blade.
There are two in Southampton that can do them.

Any chance you can list them? My mother in law needs a new key fob for her C70.

My understanding is that recent cars, starting from the mid 90's have what is called a rolling code in the key. The traditional system had a chip in the key which had a number set in it, all one had to do was tell the car to allow key number 1234 and that was OK, rolling code keys send their number 2345 to the car and in reply are sent a new number 5678 which the car remembers for next time. The car can handle a number of keys (up to 6 if I remember correctly) each using a different sequence of numbers, so if you set the replacement key to match an existing one the next time either is used the number changes and the second key is disqualified. To reprogramme the old style key is relatively simple but the rolling code keys need software from Volvo to set it up.

I will let you tell the companies that I tried that they are not decent locksmiths. I would have assumed that as they provide services to security services that they would classify as decent - clearly you know better, without even knowing who the companies were.

I realise that older, simpler keys could be cut and chipped by almost anyone, it didn't even need to be a decent locksmith as motor factors used to do it, however the improved security and matching of keys to the cars prevents these companies, decent or not, from creating duplicates that will work - they can cut the mechanical aspect, but that won't get you in and it wont start the car.
