Hi Martin, sorry to hear it's gone leaky on you.

I really admire your passion for the project. Like you say, there are bound to be some gumption traps along the way.

After fettling the manifold, I suppose the head ports are a logical progression - I'll be very interested to see how that pans out. Could have quite a significant effect, I imagine.

You've just got to work out how to keep the head screwed down tight enough!

Good luck and let me know if there's anything I can do to help...

Cheers boots

I will keep at it, I didn't think for a moment it would be easy lol. I'm still using the car every day, just have the expansion tank cap on a bit loosely to relieve the pressure

It's quite incredible really, no coolant loss, no oil/coolant mix, temperature normal, just a bit of exhaust gas getting in the system. Just looking at it you would think there is nothing wrong but try and squeeze the radiator pipes and they are rock solid!

Still, have to look on the bright side and once the hg is done there isn't really a lot else that can go wrong.

Damn that looks good!

What do the numbers on the upper edge of the ports mean, flow/volume?

My HG is starting to become more than a weap out the No.1 Cyl end of it, re-torquing it has not helped. Looking at the deck of yours there are a number of places it could be. Pattern HG is only £20 so might give it a shot

Not sure really, they don't seem to correlate to anything. If you are doing the head gasket remember to get new bolts too. If you don't want it to happen again upgrade to 12.9 grade ones too.

Mmm. Very shiny indeed!

When you get the old one off, will there be a hydraulic follower or two up for grabs?

Hydraulic lifters are cheap as, I bought a set of 10 Febi/Bilstein lifters last year for mine from German car parts in Swindon, Paid less than £50 shipped. I wouldnt go through all that work dismantling to fit 2nd hand parts?

Ah, fair enough. For some reason I had it in my mind that they'd be more like £50 each! I'll get some new ones then...

Thanks for the info.
