1989 Volvo 760 CD Player??
Hi to everyone, this is a first post so apologies if the answer is already in this forum somewhere..
I have an '89 760 with split level car stereo, made up of the radio/amp and tape deck which uses the radios amp for power. I have been trying to find out whether Volvo ever offered a CD player in the same style, as an upgrade to the tape deck, and if so, who manufactured it, what was the model number etc. I could simply replace both units with a modern single head unit but want to keep the car as original as possible. Any ideas greatly appreciated. Tim |

Simple answer, no they did not. However fear not because there are two alternatives keeping the Volvo original. You can fit either one of the many radios offered for the 940 range, these came with radio/cassette and CD-changer control (e.g. CR-905, CR-906) or with radio/CD or you could fit one of the double din units available in the 960 range, they were also available as radio/cassette with CD-changer control or with radio/CD. Ask you Volvo-dealer or check on ebay, there are often a few available.

RE: 1989 Volvo 760 CD Player??
Thanks George, I had been wondering if the double unit would fit as I have seen a few on ebay, one more question though, are the plugs on the end of the looms the same? Thats probably a stupid question but knowing my luck, I'll bid for one, win it and then find its the exception to the rule...

Nope, and yours will not be an exception, Volvo changes plugs quite often. But you can make these up with some care.

CD player for Volvo 760
Hi,
sorry: There was a CD player unit for this Volvo 760 models from 1988 to 1990. I have seen it little times. Because in my 765 there is a cassette player, I am looking to find one of this very rare CD-player-units. As I know, it is a control board which is connected to a CD changer in the rear of the cars. |

That would be a good place to start looking Tim. Although that one is listed for a 940, the same seller used to list similar kits for the 740/760 which include the patch leads (making it plug'n'play), fascia adaptors etc and of course the head unit. You may need to contact them to get the right combination though. THere was also a Philips based radio/cassette head unit and 6 disc boot mounted CD changer. I can't remember what Volvo called it but a know it as an R960 and DC-022 as Rover used the same units but obviously with Rover branding . To be honest though, the performace from them isn't great, you'd be better off buying a more modern unit as even with upgraded speakers (that's another can of worms for you to dive into! ) the sound quality isn't great. I went down the route of a modern radio/CD unit, had to rewire the electrics myself to an ISO connector due to the previous owner butchering it with red bullet crimps and ultimately fitted a radio/CD with BlueTooth, handsfree phone connection, music streaming from my phone and so on. Discrete handsfree mike at the top of the A pillar for handsfree phone use, phone calls, music and sat-nag from the phone all play through the stereo now.

Cheap Chinese guages that gave up the ghost fairly quickly sadly. As you may guess, they have black window tint film over from the look of it and once lit from behind, this becomes almost see-through. They're now on what i optimistically call my hobby bench but is in reality, a dumping ground for various small things, some working as they should, others not and awaiting repair or filing in the bin and a few small tools.
The Voltmeter still works, the AFR i never got round to connecting (slight lack of Lambda sensor) and the vac gauge has a leak in it so doesn't register correctly. I could be persuaded to part with them fairly easily..............

To be honest Dave it's the mounting that I'm looking at....
I need somewhere to mount my boost gauge ( when it arrives ready for the MBC ) I also have a vacuum gauge, that I used to diagnose vacuum issues while driving on my old 406 ) and that would leave a space for another gauge of some sort. I've never been a fan of the smoked gauges, or illuminated gauges - I like the simple things. Kelv
