pulley turning
hello i am a volvo v50 2005 owner and i was changing out my alternator when i ended up stripping out the hole where the bit was inserted. so i drilled out the hole to try to fit something else to help turn the pulley and then the side of hole busted out to . so i am wondering if there is anyone who might have any idea if i can some how get the pulley to turn so i can put the belt back on ?? or am i stuck having to buy a new unit ??
i am hoping someone may have a trick to turn it maybe . thank you |

Any pictures? Are you changing just the alternator pulley or the complete alternator?

I'm struggling to picture what you're on about. Pictures would definitely help. Is it a stretch belt?

Right ok so there is a standard spring loaded tensioner. Do you have a pry bar at all? You'll need to route the belt around all the pulleys except the tensioner pulley and use the prybar to move the tensioner pulley downwards, being careful not to damage any of the other pulleys in the process. It's definitely a bit fiddly without the ability to hold the tensioner with the torx bit, but entirely doable. Just make sure the belt is behind the prybar (closer to the engine) so you can slide it onto the pulley.

Refit the tensioner and have a trial go at releasing the tension with the pry bar before introducing the belt. I'd always advise replacing such parts with new, but appreciate that it's not always possible to do so.
