Does anyone know what body panels would fit on the 260 from the 240? I need to get a bonnet for my '79 264 and was wondering if I could salvage one from a 240 as there are plenty about!

240 and 260 panels are interchangeable from the same years. However, bonnets for the age of yours are different (flat on 240s). The later 240s were like the 260s but I think they were different at the screen end.

The 240 pick-up in my signature is the same shell as yours and has been fitted with a 260 bonnet. You could fit a flat front if you wanted and were not worried about originality. The later cars are different so a 1990 bonnet will not fit unless you change the panel with the air intake as well.

I need to keep it as original as possible but the current bonnet is too far gone, as you can see the finger hole off to the right. The panel where the bonnet hook catches will need to be replaced. How do you mean the panel where the air intake is?

The panel the bonnet catches to is the same throughout production but later cars were spot welded on rather than bolted as on yours. You can carefully drill out the spot welds. The panel might still be available new.

The panel I am referring to is the one between screen and bonnet. This picture shows how the air intake is raised on later cars whilst yours is sunk down. You might be able to use a 81-84 bonnet though if you can find one.

I think it just looks sunk down on mine, the bonnet is actually warped and sticks up at the part closest to the windscreen.

I think you could be right - perhaps it is the 81-84 bonnet that was sunk at the back. My memory is a little vague on all this after all these years since working with the early cars but I'm pretty sure you will need one from an early car specifically the 260 as on the early cars 240s had flat bonnets whilst 260s were humped. 81-84 also used a humped bonnet but I can't be certain whether they were identical. The later bonnets whilst humped have a different shape. It will not be an easy hunt. It could be worth trying to contact ebay user tombutterworth as he does have a good collection of earlier parts which he occasionally lists. He used to be a volvo specialist who retired with a good collection of bits.

I might have to use a 240 flat bonnet for the moment, as 264 ones are hard to get, unless anyone has experience fitting a later 240 bonnet to the 264 and the front panel were the bonnet catches too.

Hi as it's going to be so difficult finding the correct bonnet.Would it not be possible to repair the hole and respray the lot?Yes it will cost but if you manage to get a bonnet it will have to be sprayed to your colour anyway. You did mention a bulge were it was "warped"?
A good body shop should be able to fix it real easy.
Regards Brian.

It doesn't look as bad as it is, bonnet will need to be replaced unfortunately. I wish I could keep it, but it is too corroded on the right side.
