Just shows clean and low mileage examples are in demand.
I have a 1996 940 SE LPT automatic workhorse with same engine, bought for £250 3 years ago but nothing as nice as the above. Plan to give the exterior some tlc in spring. I hope the buyer doesn't mess the seller about as I have tried to sell my Lexus for the 2nd time and no communication from winning bidder! James. |

I think the unwrinkled door cards pushed the price up....

Wow, that's serious money!
But it makes you wonder what you'd do if you actually owned a car like that, and someone offered you that sort of money. A few years agoI owned an 1800ES for which I'd paid £2000 as a complete non-runner. The body work was very sound and with a bit of gentle re-commissioning I got the car up and running again. I was subsequently offered a price that was an attractive multiple of what I'd paid and so a deal was done and the car was sold. I've had a bit of regret ever since because although totally impractical, I loved owning that car. Now I have a 97 S90 3 litre auto with just 114,000 miles up, and it's my everyday car. I'm absolutely certain that with a bit of spit'n'polish it'd look every bit as smart as R82. It's the same colour in fact. So, do I get serious with the AutoGlym and crank up my Ebay profile, or do I sit on (or perhaps in) my S90 and feel smug that I own an appreciating asset? Just supposing I could sell mine for say £4500 what on earth would I get to replace it? If I bought something much newer I'd then have shelled out on a depreciating asset. And let's face, in modern car terms, even £6000 is only going to buy a lowish-miles Fiat 500, or a higher miles VW Golf. Good luck to both the seller and the new owner of R82 of course. I hope the one enjoys the dosh, and the other enjoys the car. Of the two I'm rather more envious of the latter! Jack |

I have been thinking of what to replace my Lexus with, and if I will even bother getting another second car.
5k gets you an older used Toyota Prius mk11. Sounds good 65mpg and cheap tax! Looking at various websites and car supermarkets you need around 15k to get you a year old Toyota Avensis or Skoda Octavia auto petrol estate. Don't want to spend more than 10k, ideally half that. New cars from all manufacturers are not cheap. Unless you buy a Dacia! So that's why I'm keeping my 940. Reliable, cheap to buy, no depreciation and a very practical workhorse for me. At least even paying 5k for the 940, if looked after it'll be still around in 10 years time. James. |

I wonder what mine is worth 1998 940 estate with 58000 on it and full service history.
