Default surge in power

so its happened twice now, driving along as usual and the car seems to surge forwards as though I have pressed the accelerator, but I haven't. Any obvious cause anyone?

I did wonder. Would the engine management light come on if it were that?

so is my ETM at risk of failing, or could it just be a blip? If it fails I guess the car is stranded?

...just a few more questions as I've now managed to find it in my engine bay and look on Google, so I am a bit more informed.

I understand the problem units are the ones with white labels, but I can see the label on mine is yellow. Is it likely the unit on my car has been changed in the past?

If it does fail, what are the options? A new unit, or send it off to be repaired? Is it likely to be expensive?
