Default Interesting find : 440 Spaceback

During the late 80's, early 90's ACT, from Zaventem in Belgium, sold a tailgate conversion for the 440.

I can remember my Volvo workshop telling my mom that Volvo would void their warranty if she would get one, so I guess that not too many got sold let alone would have survived.

Besides the occasional photo on the internet, I can remember only ever seen 2, one of which is owned by a friend but is missing all of the interior upholstery, so I was greatly surprised to find a wrecked 440 in a scrapyard with a complete spaceback.

Amazingly it was still "complete", incl the upholstery, and it even has the optional windscreen wiper, which I've never seen before! The only two bits missing are the cap on the wiper arm and the optional parcel shelf (a cloth 480-like thing).

As you can guess from the pics, I'have saved it from the crusher, together with all of the installation bits, even though I do not own a 440.

Well, if someone is eager to fit it on his/her 440, he/she is always welcome to PM me.
It is not something that I can post so a pick up is needed.

I am more into 300 and 480 at the moment though a mint 440 is still on the wishlist (preferably a 1990 440 ECC (special edition for the tennis tournament that year)).

Are you sure you're not thinking of the V70 that's just had it's spaceback relieved of a spaceback?!

Looking to the picters I wonder...

Why didn't Volvo made a production model of this, put it next to a 850 station in that time and id would have look great as the little brother. Just as the 460 to the 850 sedan.

Looks like a Ssang Yong Rodius, not a good look in my opinion but a very interesting find all the same.

Oké, I was looking at the straight roof and straight backside.

Take away the digionale window frame and place one big side window at the back, maybe that helps. replace the back lights for verticale one's like the 850 station.

And Volvo could have had a best saler.
