Talking New Volvo Owner.

Sooo I’ve just bought a 1996Volvo 940 SE 2.3LPT green with 71000 miles, full service history, one owner from new 2 sets of keys AND a single spare key which I presume is a skeleton key?? For £1200!! Few little niggels to sort out think like the heated seats have decided not to work and the break light decides it doesn’t want to work every so often. Maybe a bad earth? I dunno but drove it back from Essex to Darlington 240 miles and it was ace!!

Wow, I am sure there will be lots of people on here who will be jealous for that price.
Congrats on the purchase and welcome. You should find answers to most if not everything you need on here.
I belong to a couple of other forums for the other vehicle that I own but they are no where near as active as this forum. Have to wait days for replies if you even get one!!!! I know people give their time on here for free so I don't expect instant answers, but I have NEVER not had replies or suggestions. Seems like everyone wants FB now a days.

Default Welcome to the 700/900 section.

I echo what Flynn’s hubby says about this forum, and especially this 700/900 section.
I believe that the seat heaters have a built in temperature sensor which prevents them from heating if the ambient temperature iis 10C or more, but I’m not sure whether that is the outside temperature or the car inside temperature. Having said that, I think the heater in my driver’s seat has failed but I haven’t investigated yet as it is low down the list of priorities.
Is it all three brake lights fail occasionally?

The BRAKE light could just be adjustment. 96 is a good vintage. Welcome to the club

Is it manual or auto ?

Could also just be that he's not pushing far enough on the brake pedal Mark, i know mine needs about 1/2" of travel before it works whereas my Rover is literally touch the pedal and the brake lights are on.

As long as the brake lights work with reasonable pressure on the pedal 10 times out of 10 i wouldn't panic.

Welcome aboard Jordan, if/when you need/want to ask anything about your car, try to include as much information as possible but always the year, engine, gearbox and model (944/945) to give us all as much as possible to go on. Include all the weird things happening/not happening as they could be useful clues even if they seem irrelevant - Volvo did a lot of things differently to other manufacturers so what might seem obvious or perhaps irrelevant to you could be the exact clue needed to find the fault!

Also Volvo often changed the spec on various things as and when they felt like it, there are umpteen different braking systems for example depending on year, model, transmission, whether they have ABS or not and other things. Also you don't know if someone has fitted parts from a different year/model car to yours and while they may have come from another 940, they might be completely wrong for yours.

Cheers guys!! Seem a friendly bunch! Next time I’ll post as much detail as I can relevant to my car. I’m presuming it’s break light as it was only when I was putting my foot on the break, a orange bulb light was showing on the glass

Which glass? Do you mean the bulb failure warning light in the instrument cluster?

Welcome to the best forum for your Volvo. Very good people here to advice and Mark and Luke great for any parts you may need.

A 940 Is a great car. Easy to service, reliable, comfy, very practical. You got a bargain for £1200.

I have the same 1996 940 SE LPT but Automatic, but 205,000miles.

Welcome
