Well it seems I can't have a new bit of pipe. I'll give it a good clean and try a spot of JB Weld metal epoxy (or similar), minor as the leak is they have a habit of becoming bigger....

Which pipe is it that you need? Is it the turbo coolant return pipe?
I had one made up for mine but then didn't need to use it (because after months of hunting, I eventually persuaded a scrapyard to sell me the one they had bundled with a turbo). As I never needed it, I did not take the securing bracket off the old pipe and have it welded to this one, so that still needs doing. Otherwise, it is a new copy pipe. Happy to sell it on. Let me know if it is of interest, or pop down to your local Pirtek or similar place and they might make you one. |

Brake fluid change today, figured it best after sucking a bit out of the reservoir and finding it green...
Didn't have an issue with any of the bleed nipples, other than fining my 10/12mm flare nut spanner didn't fit any of them, with 9mm on the rears and 11mm on the fronts. When pulling the NSF wheel off I got a bit of black grease on my fingers and found a bit splattered around the inside of the wheel. Outer CV gaiter has a crack in it, so 'Margo' is off the road awaiting parts. Just as well the 240 is in good health, since the Capri is waiting cooler weather for me to weld in new toe boards and the front wing!

Well that's a couple of firsts for me today. No way the 36mm nut on the driveshaft was moving, so an excuse to buy a hefty impact wrench which did the job easily. Made sure my good lady was stood on the brake pedal to avoid the stress going to the gearbox mind. In the past when changing CV boots I've always pulled the joints apart, but this time opted to try a stretch boot which I'm pleased say went on far more easily than I imagined it would. Happy days, my R is back on the road, and maybe I can start working on the more cosmetic bits now.

@CosmicBike
Nice to see another V70R on the road. Mine is the same colour. I've not seen another V70R on the road in any of the versions. IMO, our Mk ones look the best ... LOL.

One little thing leads to another. That offside rattle that I thought was the top mount, well stripped own and it had a newer version of the mount already fitted which was in good health. The strut, on the other hand, sank in all on its own with no resistance, so kapput. I want to stay original so ordered a pair of struts from Volvo, picked up and fitted both sides today. Drives better now.

Don't forget the back end
As with any V70r of this vintage, I would urge you to replace the parking brake shoes, as the friction material will separate from the shoe resulting in catastrophic damage to the backplate.

With the MOT looming I figured a quick look over, and oh dear the offside front wheel had a fair whack of play in it. A bit of fiddling and discover the ball joint to the hub has loads of play in it, so new lower arm ordered. At the same time looked at the RH engine mount, OK new one of them too.
Currently up on jacks, engine mount done, just the arm to do in the morning.

Well I've done easier jobs, but got the arm done this morning in about an hour. All a bit better, still need to have a look at the subframe bushings though. Also another drop and fill of 3 litres of gearbox oil, slowly becoming a better colour and the shifts are so much smoother.
