I found this update (1383) over the air was much quicker than before.

Just the UK update, done OTA via mobile.

Download and install about 20 mins each?

Usually much longer.

I think these regular updates are great (no idea what is actually updated) but if you don't like the regular updates you can always deselect auto update.....

Yes, it should install in that time but if it doesn't complete it will simply continue from where it left off when you next start the car and yes, it's just the install process that runs if you use a USB stick containing the files you've previously downloaded. Note however that navigation is unavailable while updating from a USB stick and if you have 2 USB sockets with an Apple Carplay connection on one of them, Carplay will also be disabled during the update.

Use an empty USB stick for the download and be prepared for a long download time on your PC. Even with a fibre connection to the internet it took me nearly 3 hours to download. Obviously, if you just update the UK (and Iceland) it will take significantly less time to download.

True if upgrading the whole of Europe map but navigation remains available whilst updating just a region from a USB stick.

I didn’t really get on with the sensus map. Stick to Google or Waze via car play. Am I missing anything by doing this?

I'm with you Lord. I try Sensus maps now and then if I can't be bothered to connect the phone but they always disappoint.

After you have invested in the Carplay link.
Then found a Wireless linking system.

(if you are plugging in your phone it's not a replacement to Sensus 'always on')

Maybe I might be missing thinking but I have a wire always in the cubby hole and connect my phone when driving so I can charge it, listen to podcast or Amazon music and use Waze. I think only thing I miss is getting Waze or google maps on the front screen…that would be nice

Just out of curiosity - why do you orefer google maos (say) to sensus maps?

I always use sensus and never had an issue; only thing is it might take a few mins for traffic data to show when 1st starting off.....

Off the top of my head:
I was on the North York Moors, on an A road. I pulled over and asked it for directions - it said "proceed to the road". It didn't know I was on a road and took a while to realise it.
I was somewhere around Rutland Water, there was a diversion for a bridge repair so I asked Sensus for a route. It took me a long way around but declined to show any of the roads on the screen.
The new A14/A1/M11 road layout was there for ages before Sensus caught up, similarly other new road layouts.
The faff of having to update it quite often.

The only thing I like about Sensus is that it says "please" a lot.
