Default [V40, 1998, Pb 1.8 115KM] service message - cannot delete

Hello, I am new to the forum and I am looking some input from expierience Volvo owners.

I have issue with my V40 - I cannot reset the service message on the gauge cluster. I have followed the instructions I have found on the internet

1. With ignition off press and hold trip reset button
2. Turn on ignition
3. Service should start blinking after about 30 seconds

In my case it does not flash, just stays on.

ASFAIK
- Pre 1998 V40 cannot use any OBD2 software - there is a special software to go with it 850 OBD II by xiaotec. Does it work with my car?

- This car uses a Fenix ECU and Renault transmission I have VAG com cable but so far I cannot communicate using DDT2000 software that I am trying to use.

Any input appreciated

Here is a short video showing off my car

The reset procedure only works on the 99 onwards phase 2 cars, I think you'll need someone with a code reader to get rid of it on a phase 1.

Just to say, not all OBDII readers are the same.

By this I mean I bought a £10 cabled one which would read, but not clear codes on my car.

I then purchased a £5 bluetooth one which I connected to my phone. That read and cleared codes for me.

So don't assume you can't clear the codes, it might be the OBDII tool you're using.

I do not have any OBD2 codes. There is no Check Engine Light or Lambda error in the car. Car runs fine. I cannot communicate completely with the ECU in any way using two different OBD2 readers and VAG Com Can cable.

So this is different situation when you can read but not clear the codes.

The only thing that I have displayed on the dashboard is Service Light which indicates that car needs to be serviced, for example oil change interval has come up. And it goes away after I drive for couple minutes.

I think Charles means that the car itself uses the OBD2 system to connect to the car, not specifically trouble codes, so you'd need a compatible reader to turn off the service light.
