Power issues need help
Right as some of you know I have a Mk1 V70 98 2.5l engine. What I haven't said is that it is a project right now. The problem:
The battery fitted to the car is dead so if I want to test the electrics I've put into the car I have to use jump leads from another car, which usually isn't a problem. I was just out testing some parts when I noticed the cigarette lighter socket had power without the key even being in the ignition slot. Then I noticed the green and red lights on the air con was on, thought little of that until I moved the fan speed toggle from the off position and the whole thing started blowing air, again the key wasn't in the ignition. Can this be normal behaviour in a Volvo? I don't know as this is the first one I've owned. This has never happened in any other car I've owned. Help please |

Open the fusebox in the engine bay at the base of the windscreen on the drivers side, remove the four Torx screws to get the lid off, pull relay 105 then see if the issue with the blower unit stops, if not pull relay 106 and check the blower again.
Which ever relay when pulled shuts the power off to the blower would indicate that relay is stuck in the on position and should be replaced - Mike |

Does that happen even when the ignition isn't on?

It shouldn't occur when the ignition is off and the key is in your pocket unless a relay has welded in the on position OR the ignition switch electrical portion has failed internally, start by checking the relays first as they are the cheapest and easiest to fix - Mike

I've just been to check the relays. Either both the 105 and the 106 relays are faulty or that isn't where the problem lies. Removing the 105 relay tuned off the air con but testing it with the 106 relay just turned it back on again.
What would be the best option for me to do now? Replace both relays and try again? What was the other thing about the ignition switch? What does that entail doing? Last edited by tvirus; Aug 3rd, 2013 at 19:29. Reason: Additional info |
