At least now you know it is the car at fault not the key.I get the same message sometimes on my S60 but it seems I am not pressing the pedal far enough.

Probably not but these forums are quiet compared to some other car brands. I'd take it to the dealer and see what they have to say, my local will sometimes diagnose without charge. Let us know how you get on

Default Start button problem

Leaving a dealer visit as a very last resort as they charge an eye watering amount

What I will do when I get a chance is to connect up to VIDA and see if any interesting fault codes

John,

Did you get this sorted?

My V70 does the same. A new key helped for about a year, but it's started to me about again.

Default Problem still happening

Problem still happening - maybe 10% of the time lately

Busy with major bathroom renovation for the next 4 weeks so hoping the situation remains stable with the XC60 starting...

Hi mate, I'm having the same problem. Tried both fobs but often when the key is sucked in there's a click and no dash lights and it can take 2 or 3 goes for them to appear. When they do it starts fine. Did you find a solution please as it feels like a sword of Damocles for break down at the mo?
Regards Rob

Hi guys, did this get resolved? I have the same issue with my 2009 XC60 T6.
I've pulled out the dash key mechanism, and all appears in good condition. I've tried to get continuity from the start button, which seems to be present.

At a loss!

Default Still intermittent

Over 2 years since my original post that started this thread. The key I use is still intermittent but not getting any worse. My wife's key seems OK though, so I do think that the problem somehow resides with the key. New key batteries fitted make no difference.

I've learned to live with the problem / accept things as they are. (I've been married for 30 years plus so that applies to relationships as well as cars !)

Yup. Same thing happened on my 2008 V70. Very worrying and completely no rhyme or reason to it happening. I’ve got a diagnostic tool coming so will plug in and see if it picks anything up. For me this has also coincided with a temperamental indicator, door locking and window issue which isn’t looking good. Electrical issues get pricey!

The solution so far has been to remove the key and reinsert and it generally starts straight away. On a few occasions I've had to do the reinsertion process twice before it will start

My concern is that one day it wont start at all and that it will be a day when my wife has the car in the middle of nowhere and it's raining and dark...

One clue I have observed is that on a few random occasions a message has popped up about needing to depress the brake pedal (even though I already have the brake pedal pushed). Note that on the vast majority of no start problem occurrences however I get absolutely no messages at all

Anyone else had a similar problem and if so how was it solved ?
Dear JGEM

I recently imported a 2012 Volvo S60 to Zimbabwe where I am and currently facing the exact same starting problems just the way you described them in this thread. Did you finally get any solutions and if so would you kindly share notes mate? It's turning my head crazy.
Thanks
