I doubt if the word cheap comes into it , the steering column has to come out .. Is he a volvo authorised repairer to do the software ? good news on the breakdown cover ..👍🏻

He's a Saab/Volvo specialist so possibly - will have to ask. If not, I'm guessing it's an expensive trip to Volvo Warrington isn't it?

There is a cheap fix possibly
It could be just a gummed up spigot on the steering lock not an easy fix but doable.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B0HTbDftz30 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BEt8oxXTqxM I have this issue intermitantly on my XC60 at the moment. I would be happy to remove the steering lock completely as they are very easy to break but not sure what effect it would have or how to bypass it. If anyone has actually carried this out I would like to know how it turned out. Also not sure how I would tackle the shear bolt removal. I have seen where you can just give it a whack with a hammer and it can free it up enough to get you going. Last edited by Lorribot; Jun 11th, 2020 at 17:31. Reason: add url |
