If a trader sells a vehicle which is described as "salvage" or "spare parts/repairs use only" this absolves them of pretty much any responsibility unless they have made any other specific claims (e.g. "good engine"). To be fully compliant - they really should also stipulate on the invoice "to be recovered by trailer". That said my knowledge is 10 years old from when I worked in the motor trade, things might have changed now but not substantially. Where this particular trader falls down is they described their cars as spares/repairs but then offer unlimited test drives.................. that could get them into hot water, especially with the new road tax rules in place. |

There is indeed, but it is a lemon. Needs plenty of work doing to it to get it to a decent standard.

So how did their business model work out.... I presume you paid less than what you won the auction for?

I bought mine from them, they listed the faults, I knew what I was getting into and it was cheap enough that the repairs aren't going to be silly money. Most of it is just wear and tear stuff, although the splined sleeve is shot and the intercooler has started blowing (saying that though, I've had it since March and done a fair amount of miles in it). There are a couple of other problems, but nothing that stops it going and can be sorted as and when.

It is now back up on ebay.
To get it into reasonable condition and mot passible it would need the following: Headgasket or replacement head or more cost effective a replacement engine Cambelt kit and auxillary kit Thermostat kit Radiator Expansion tank and cap Intercooler Gear linkage bush fore motion (3rd can be difficult to select) Angle gear Investigate low oil pressure with the DEM/AOC Discs all round Pads all round Shoes Steering rack adjusted for slack in offside or replacement rack Control arm bushes and balljoints on front Trailing arm bushes on rear Rear parking sensor kit

Have just had a look at it on e-bay.... sounds like some of the above would render it un-roadworthy yet they are still offering test drives... did the give you trade plates to test drive it given it cannot be taxed now?

Seems to have sold on ebay, hope it works out for who ever bought it.
Would have kept it if it wasn't for the coolant issue. Ah well, it has at least confirmed that an XC is what we need, preferably an XC90, but if I find a top spec XC70 it will be difficult to turn down.
