Default Tyres!!!

I know this one keeps coming up again and again. However....

Am looking to replace the tyres on my 855R and it is a toss up between the Goodyear F1 and Avon ZZ3 both in sizes 215/40-17.

Anyone used either of these and got any feedback?

Thanks,

Dave

I'm running Falken's new road-legal "track-day" tyre in 215/40-17 on my T5. They're great! Can't remember the specific "model" I'm afraid (and it's dark and raining, so I'm not going to go and look now...)

Not sure about the tyres but I just had to mention, I needed two new tyres for the front of mt T5R, went down to the local tyre spot, got two part worn pzeros, when I say part worn, they look like they have done about two miles still have nobly bits on, they cost me £18 a piece, cheaper than my mondeo. I was well chuffed.

You may well have got a bargain there, but I don't think that used tyres are a good idea - you never know whether they have been hard kerbed or damaged in a pothole incident until you get a failure.

Tyres are the only link between you and the road and cutting corners there may well mean you won't corner!

If you bought a second hand car would you replace the tyres straight away? because you don't know if they have been kerbed etc plus you can't see the inside of the tyre just to be extra careful. So next time you replace your car you better replace the tyres as well.

Dave,

I have had the Goodyears F1 now for the last 8k miles, i have been very pleased with them, seem to grip well in both wet and dry conditions. Down to about 6-7mm tread depth now. They also have good side wall/protection for the wheels.

I had some Avons (not ZZ3) on my last car and they weren't as good in the wet, although the car didn't have AWD, so perhaps not a far comparison :), but they certainly lasted well.

Hope this is of some help.

I'm runnig on Avon's, nearly 6 months down the line now. Great tyre, no slips, unless I want to, and no sign of any wear as of yet.

Thanks for the feedback, it looks like it will be the F1's then. Got a good deal from my local tyre shop (Buckley Tyres) for £110 per corner fitted.

As a matter of fact, yes I would unless the dealer had fitted new tyres (which has been the case in my last two purchases).

No idea about their suitability for FWD applications, but I can thoroughly recommend Avon ZZ3's.
