Nice to know Volvo's body engineering does work in the real world.

Cars are likely to be written off if the estimates for repairs exceed around 60% of its market value. Another factor is availability of parts and how long the insurers would have to fund a hire car. It looks like lots of airbags have been deployed but I don't think the side ones are too expensive - those in the Seats are more costly to sort. It would be a shame if that was written off as it does look structurally sound from the pics.

It will be written off the passenger door is stuck shut. And the guy in the salvage yard said cost per a bag was on excess of £800 ×4 and that's not including a new dash. New front seats and belts. And a steering column.

He said it was close to 10k without labour for the inside alone.

You could get to another 5k easy on exterior at top line costs.

Plus labour and the charges for that would be extortion

It's the price (worth paying) for your safe exit from the vehicle.
I rather suspect you will be choosing the same car to replace it.

Did you have the Volvo On Call system installed that calls the emergency services when the vehicle suffers an adverse knock or motion.
If so how long before you were called by the local police to check on you?

Default I wrote mine off too

Was driving West on A75 in SW Scotland 4 weeks ago. Swerved to avoid something and crashed through a farmer's wall, dropped about 4 feet, then through anther fence and came to a halt. Car had £19.5k damage and that I before I depth strip out. Every panel on NS dented/rippled, bonnet dented, hole in front screen you could have put your fist through, back bumper adrift etc etc. Yet my wife and I just stepped out of the car with not even a scratch or bruise. Air bags not triggered due to speed/angle of impact. Car stayed on its wheels. Police advised we could have been killed in any other make of car.

Fortunately had GAP insurance.

New XC60 ordered and due late October.

Took almost 3 weeks to get over the shock of the crash though

Wow, nasty - glad you're OK.
Staying at Twynholm, I use the A75 several times a week - very unpredictable road - can be deserted one minute and solid with tourists and lorry convoys to/from Stranraer the next - potentially really dangerous - definitely happier dealing with it in a Volvo!
