Default Startup procedure and weird startup noise on d3 163

Hi,

Loving the d3 so far... it looks like I have the best d3 engine which is the same as the d4

Anyway I heard a weird noise yesterday when starting the car twice (second time after it had cooled).

it was a short groan just after the starter motor stopped (and the engine was running). it lasted for maybe 1 second.

Does anyone know if this is normal?

Also I'm wondering perhaps if I'm starting the car correctly as I put the key in, press the brake and press start... previously on other cars I've had to wait for a light to go out on the dash before starting

many thanks
Christian

Difficult to say based on that description.

If it happens again, film it and upload it to youtube.

Because you have a starter button, the ECU will only trigger the starter once the glow plugs have reached the optimum target temperature for starting, etc. So you can only start it by pushing the button and the ECU does the rest.

Was the aircon / climate control switched on at the time? Could be the aircon compressor kicking in. Next time you go to start it, make sure the aircon and climate are NOT active and see if it makes the noise.
