Default headlamp failure, service required

2011 V60, 1.6D Drive, Xenon Headlights. I've got the message, "headlamp failure, service required" and the relevant orange light on the dashboard. Lights appear operational. Dash warning doesn't specify a side for the "headlamp failure".

There is some other posts on here suggesting it might be the level sensor on the back axel. However, when the warning came up, my front indicator bulb was out (now replaced) and there is a little condensation in the same headlight. Could all be a coincidence.

I've attached my cheap reader to the car, and nothing comes up, (well, stuff about the injectors, but lets get in to that).

Obviously don't want to play guess the part to replace.

Will there be a code in there somewhere, but needs a decent reader ?
Will it need Vida, or should a decent reader do it ?
Got a local garage I use for servicing, but no Vida, as they are not a Volvo specialist.(located near Glasgow)

Any other suggestion to narrow down the fault ?

drop the headlight out and clean the contacts see if it clears the message if not a reader may be needed to clear definitely worth a try as the xenon bulbs are expensive dont be tempted to fit a cheaper one they dont last d3s bulbs are abt £90 check which one you need before buying.

The messages relate to the active bending and levelling system, rather than the lamps themselves. You need to find a dealer or indie who can read the codes, it could be multiple causes. Most common cause is there is a level sensor on the front and rear suspension, but it also links to the steering angle sensor or it could be the headlamp motors themselves.

iv this message and i dont have abl. changing the bulb fixed it for me cheapest options are always worth trying first but a scan with vida will always be the best option. but as the op lives in a mystery location it will be hard to find someone near to help him.

I have the same fault, my local garage has identified the rear sensor as the problem but the part seems to be only available from Volvo. Anyone with a clue about price?
