Default Fuel Filter Drain Plug Rubber Washer

Decided to change my fuel filter today and as others have found / commented the housing was a b**ch to remove, and how flimsy does the plastic cover feel / look!!

I did use the drain plug to drain some diesel out of the housing and found a very slight weep from the plug when everything re-assembled.

Removed the drain plug again and found that the rubber washer has an inner and outer washer, is this right? Or should it be 1 piece? The inner washer is also split

Anyway, I managed to get both pieces back together and in place and the weep appears to have stopped now. Obviously will keep checking over the next few days or so.

Imagine my surprise when my local volvo dealer informed me that they only sell the full fuel filter housing, at a price of £105+vat!!! All I need is a rubber washer!!!

Has anyone managed to source just a replacement washer? Or know what size / dimensions it is?

Mike

There is an inner and outer washer which are included if you buy a new quality brand filter. Your dealer have no clue what they are talking about if they are trying to fleece you for a new housing.

Remember not to overtighen the housing when you put it back on - the washer will expand and hand tightening is sufficient and then you dont risk breaking the housing next time you need to remove it.

thanks for your advice. I used a Mann filter from a local autoparts store. included in the box was a new large o-ring seal for the housing, but no seal for the drain plug. Does the volvo filter come with both seals?

There never is.

Only two rubber seals come with a new filter.

The small one goes on the neck of the filter itself and the large one on the plastic filter housing itself to form a seal.

The drain plug seals will never be provided with a filter but should be easy to obtain as a generic part rather than a Volvo item.

I asked at FRF last year if the rubber drain plug washer was available to buy separately, and can confirm that it’s not.

I too would be very interested if anyone locates a suitable replacement, mines been on since the car was new in 2004.

I ended up buying this assorted pack of rubber washers

https://www.toolstation.com/shop/p23104

The pack contained one that was a gnats knacker away from the original one fitted to my filter housing.

All seems good so far!

I bought a complete kit of them last year from Aldi or Lidl for under a fiver. I have no doubt whatsoever that something suitable would be in there.
Ebay will also sell assorted packs cheaply.

It never fails to amaze me the incompetence or pure laziness of some parts persons !

The drain **** is 30742913 presumably it comes with seals ...

Thanks Clan, I always thought FRF were on the ball with regard to parts, but obviously not.

This forums knowledge always impresses me.
