Default XC90 Drivers Seat Headrest - Broken?

Hello,

Had my lovely '08 XC90 Executive for some time now....then recently got in and shuffled myself around in the seat a bit too vigorously, while leaning with my shoulders on the headrest....there was a clunk, and now the headrest wobbles quite a bit. I've taken it in and out, but I can't see how I can try to fix the problem that I caused.

Any ideas anyone?

Thanks.

If it's broken you should be able to find a replacement on eBay

Default Broken Headrest

For the whole seat?

It's not the headrest that is broken - it appears to be the mechanism that the headrest 'prongs' are inserted into....inside the seat itself.

Disconnect vehicle battery (due to seat airbags)
Disconnect, Unbolt, and Remove whole seat (heavy, 2 people required)
Remove backrest seat material, very carefully
Inspect internals of seat (headrest guides)
Then you can figure out what parts you need to repair or replace.

You cannot do this with the seat inside the car
It's a days work regardless of what is repaired.

I have some (grey) seats for sale cheaply if needed - frame etc all good so I assume you could use it to repair yours.
I'm in Luton, Beds.

There is not much chance someone will answer you on this, as it's rather uncommon.

I know from when I removed the skin and cushion off a seat, the headrest is clipped on each rod with a securing plastic clip. I would guess these clips are damaged - they are indeed on the seat side, not part of the headrest. The question is, will the headrest still work in a crash as it's supposed to move forward in order to reduce the whiplash effect?

The best would be to walk to the scrappers and cut open the rear of a seat (iI guess might be from any Volvo, S60, V70 etc) and see how it's secured and what might have gone wrong: even source a replacement part from there if it looks like easy and safe.
