Default Rear Fog Light UK Switch to Europe

I want to export my V60 (70 Plate) to Portugal. I suspect when they run their MOT equivalent they would fail my car with the rear fog light being on drivers side (rear right). I want to have the rear fog light on the left side - has anyone done this? How is it done? I did call Volvo Aberdeen and they said they don't do that - means drilling holes etc etc. I have talked to some local Auto-Electricians and they've not done it. Appears no one up North has even exported from UK to Europe. Is there any help out there please?

I've done this on many of my previous cars. There may be a bulb position just not filled, you may need to remove a plastic cover, and you may need to wire it in. As long as you can get to the lamp assembly this should be possible. Assuming filament not led ..

You may be lucky enough to discover that the lampholder is already in place; this was the case with Zafira Bs, and it only required a short but factory-supplied section of wiring loom or the running of a feed from the offside unit to activate the nearside one.

What might give you problems are:1 the connections are proprietary so dealer-supply at great expense; and 2 the bulb-failure circuitry which might expect only 1 21-watt drain on the rear fog light circuit. In that case you would have to remove the feed to the right-hand lamp (and re-make it if you brought the car back home).

Alternatively, when you get to Portugal try to source a drivers's side unit from a Volvo dealer out there.

Thank you I’ll check out the left side to see what exists. The dealer didn’t want anything to do with it…

I did it to my S60 when I exported it to Germany:

You need to run a cable from the working bulb to the other side of the car. The bulb in the unlit side of the car was already there in my S60. I fitted a relay and used the lead as the switch to the relay then took a live from the rear fuse box to feed the relay to power the bulb.

Do not be tempted to connect the powered lead from the working bulb to the non-powered, this will just trip the control unit.

Edit: This is how I did it...https://www.volvoforums.org.uk/showp...41&postcount=3

Being a 2020 car does your car have the ability to switch headlights from LHD to RHD ? If so, I'd test that first maybe Volvo have pre-programmed the car to do it for you and switch the rear fog light automatically.

Well the front lights definitely can be switched via settings - I’m not sure about the rear fog. Car is off getting discs when it’s back I’ll check - cheers
