Default Smoking under acceleration,Any ideas?

My V40 D 2002 smokes under acceleration in the lower gears, big clouds of black smoke, car has been well serviced as a BT fleet car and has a mileage of 97k so not mega miles.Just wondering if this could be a clogged EGR or maybe a turbo issue?
Any ideas guys?

I understand black smoke to be down to poor combustion, too much fuel not enough air or poorly atomised fuel injection. i.e. i would expect the problem to be with either the fuel injectors or the sensors and controls that set the injector pressure, timing and duration, or possibly a faulty MAF sensor over-predicting the mass air flow. (assuming your engine is commen rail injection like my D5, if not oops!!)

I be surprised if it were the turbo. faults with turbos and smoke are generally lubrication getting into the inlet or exhaust and causing blue smoke like a badly worn piston/bore

I'd be interested to know what diagnostic tests are possible for the injectors. Can an injector be passed as good or identified as bad by the ECU/ECM. (I may have an injector problem)

can't comment on EGR, no idea.

the turbo hoses are known to split, this will give a slight loss in power and slight hiss on full load.i would check the air filter as well.

My D5 became extremely smokey unbder acceleration a few days after I bought it (2nd hand with 40K on the clock). There was no significant affect on performance, but it could be that I was not yet sufficiently accustomed to what was normal. Anyway, it was diagnosed as a "burst" intercooler. Replacement was, thankfully, a warranty job as I believe it could have been very costly.

Black smoke usually = Inlet leak

I would check
1 airfilter+ airbox
2 plumbing from turbo to intercooler to intake manifold for leaks. My friends passat tdi started to smoke like a freight train and it was a pipe from the intercooler that was chafed through...

After checking those bits that it gets more advanced....

Best regards / The swede
