D5 xc90 fault code 0094 fuel system (slight leak)
Hi to all. Can anyone help me please. I have a 03 plate xc90 d5 which has done 66000 trouble free miles but has suddenly developed this running problem. It goes into limp mode every time you accelerate past 2500 rpm. I have read and done everthing that has been mentioned in other threads but the problem still exists. I have checked all pipe unions and induction hoses around the engine and replaced the mass air flow meter because when i unplugged it, it stopped going into limp mode but wouldnt pull the skin off a rice pudding. I have also replaced the canister fuel filter by the side of the fuel tank underneath. I am wondering if it is a fuel restriction or low fuel pressure that would give the same signal. Is there another filter anywhere? I am fortunate to have a friend who lent me his snap on diagnostic scanner which reads this code 0094 fuel system slight leak. I would appreciate any advice.
Also i have a volvo vadis dvd that my friend gave me, a 2004 edition but i dont know how to use it or have a pass word for it. Could some one advise me on this. Best regards, Nigel. |

My bet would be injectors
very annoying problem! With my car it turned out to be the diesel injectors which were causing the problem. I had a "fuel leak" fault read by a non volvo code reader - this turns out to be loss of pressure in the low pressure side of the injection system. A leak back test was required to determine that 3 injectors were returning too much fuel meaning they were faulty. The leak back test involves observing the fuel returned from each injector by removing the smaller black hose from the top - there should only be a small trickle of un-injected fuel returning through the system. On three of mine, the flow was heavy (indicating injectors not injecting fuel correctly and excess fuel passing back through return lines. They are not cheap either to be honest - £250 each! they have to be the exact code for your engine and there are 3 types (1, 2 and 3 made by bosch). Oh and if leakback test proves injectors are OK then it may be worth changing diesel filter. This could be your first option unless you know it has been changed recently. I managed to get Volvo (stratstone in reading) to split the cost of the x3 injectors with me as for them to fail at 54K was just not good enough. so if it is injectors kick up a fuss - call volvo customer care (google number) and write to them. Still cost me £450 but better than £900. The other two injectors seem fine still after 95K. Luck of the draw i guess. Good luck |

Oh and that code pulled is a generic code NOT volvo specific. I would get the codes pulled by Volvo to be honest first.
My thread on the same problem below: http://www.volvoforums.org.uk/showthread.php?t=55656 Good luck ! |
