Which model Jim? Don't think i've ever seen any sort of wheelarch liner/protection panel on any of mine. Not saying they weren't originally fitted, just by the time i got them..............

I've not owned a 940 Jim, perhaps they were never fitted to 7xx?

Either way, hopefully someone knows how and will be along soon.

Jim, I've done this on my 1993 960 front wheel arch plastic protector panels. I simply cut off the plastic securing pins with pliers and replaced with black plastic expanding pins...similar to that used on the internal panels; available in Halfords.

On 1990 late 745's they are secured with bolt headed screws (seem to recall about 8/10mm) strategically placed around the plastic of the panel to attach the shield to the inner flitch plate and the wing wheel arch inner return.

It's just a matter of seeking them out and dropping/jiggling down the plastic shield (from a couple or so additional plastic molding holding clips/nubs.

In a lot of cases (on all four wheel arches) they have been taken off in the past and not replaced by some lazy person. A bit like the under engine tray! They are there for a purpose which they do very well..

Thanks for that Bob - i'm still sure i've never seen them on any of mine but if they were only fitted from 1990 on that would explain it! All my 7xxs have been 1987/88 vintage, first was E531 OMG, second was F212 UFL, third was F666 TLK and my current 760 F760 LPJ.

However............................

now i know how they're secured, i think i can help! Assuming the Volvo plastic rivets need a 6mm hole, these work well :

https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00GX65DHU

Had to do something similar on one of my Rovers so found those on Amazon, 10 for £2.10 but these might be better value, £1.63 for 10 and designed for wheelarches :

A useful tool for removing them :

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Door-car-tr...34S6G2DSYHKFH7

Saves a lot of time, effort and scratched paintwork!

New rivets and the tool for under a fiver delivered? Couldn't even drive to Halfrauds for that!

After I put up my post I went outside and flashed a touch under the wheels arch of my H reg 745 breaker (to far to walk out to the 'real' motor) .. yes, both of them have the shields

From a quick glance by torch I saw the 'bolt' headed screws that fix the shroud up. At the front (at least) it's in 2 parts. Didn't see any press type studs. Interestingly there are no fixings on to the wheel arch return flare. I will have a more detailed look 2moz and sling up a pic. I will also look on my parts disc for the finer detail. Bob

On my 740 (1990) there are screw-like (male) threads welded to each inner wheelarch which the plastic nuts screw on to secure the arch liners.

Here's a pdf from the parts list for the 740 front section showing the wheel arch liners and fittings.
