Hi,
Thanks; I have seen that page. Seems to say - I think - that more than one axle ratio could have been fitted to my car. When I collect it I'll check the kph (on an accurate gps speedo) per 1000 revs is in top and work out the ratio. Cheers John |

A 1973 164 with manual gearbox will almost certainly have 3.54 or 3.73 gear ratio in the rear axle (unless it's been changed).
The final gear on the M400 is 1.00 meaning it will rev 3200 in 100 kph (with the 3.73 rear axle). With the M410 the rev drops to below 2600 rpm. Conclusion; it's worth trying to find an OD box. |

An update. Genuine 80 mph (from GPS speedo) = 4000rpm so I definitely want higher gearing.
So today I collected an overdrive 164 gearbox and propshaft. I'll have the box and OD checked over, new bearings, seals etc, then install it in the next few weeks. John |
