Default S & V60 D4 VEA owners - throttle pedal question

For S & V60 owners with the new VEA D4 motor, what is the throttle response like, please?

The reason for asking is, I had a V40 on loan with the 5-cylinder D4 motor. The throttle mapping & response on that car was awful compared with my V60. The first half-inch of throttle pedal movement on the V40 seemed to do nothing at all, then it was like a light-switch.

This made it really hard to modulate the throttle in traffic, making response very jerky, and when I wanted some poke, it seemed like I had to floor it to get the grunt I wanted.

My current 2011 V60's throttle pedal is sensitive and easy to modulate. Your thoughts / feedback welcome!

Are you talking manual?

On the 8-speed, the mapping seems very smooth. Early foot press gives a slow speed build and the gearbox follows suit. Having had a brief run of a manual the mapping of the throttle and bite point on the clutch seemed very well mated there. In the last 3 weeks I've only driven one other manual (wife's coke can city car) and it was a horrible experience. The D4 manual just seemed 'right'. Also worth noting that in neutral the revs response to added throttle in my auto is very linear, with no real noticeable spikes.

Very subjective I know, but that's all I've got.

I beleive V40 D3 and D4 were given a software change to fix or at least reduce this problem.

My wife's V40 D4 GT is very sensitive on the pedal.... I wouldn't say that nothing happens when you first press the gas pedal, but it's a very smooth progress. Press harder and nothing seems to happen and then all at the same time! A bit of the early 850 T5's in my experience. Wheel spin happens easily when provoked and not only in first gear.....

So I have the VEA D4. The throttle response seems fine and has not been anything unusual since we got the car 3wks ago. So I would suggest that it's different from the 5cyl D4 then.
