Default Quick new tyres size question

Hi all,

It's nearly time to put some new tyres on the V70 and I wanted to ask some opinions quickly as I cannot find a definitive answer.

The car has 16" Metis alloy wheels and currently has 215/65/16 tyres fitted.
When plugging the details of the car into blackcircles, it suggests a 215/55/16 93W is the correct fitment.
£100 a corner would get me some goodyear efficient grips in this size but the same tyres in a smaller 205/55/16 fitment is about £30 less a corner.

My question therefore is can I fit the smaller 205/55/16 tyres onto the car instead? Will it cause any issues and will my speedo be affected by much? If I can fit these then would save me £120 which can go towards a well needed alignment and ARB bush.

If yours is a P2 then they should be fine as they are a stock size.
Look on your fuel flap for fitted sizes.
If you fit a non std size as fitted by manufacturer, this can legally constitute a modification and thus may affect insurance (some like to be picky, a 'mod' is a 'mod' thus charge more, some dont care so long as load rating is sufficient and speed rating exceeds 70mph) but if its a 'stock' size as fitted from new, that cant be deemed a mod and they have no way to prove what was fitted when it left the dealer.

Ah lovely - the 205/55/16's are on the fuel cap. I will fit those then.
Thanks for your help.

The tire size indicated on the fuel door should give you the correct speed indication, although truth is the speedometer in modern cars always indicates a higher than real speed (you can check the speedometer against a GPS).
