Default EMAP pipe change - car in limp mode

Took my 2015 D3 in for its 5th service and recall today, and the dealer phoned back saying the EMAP tube was blocked and needed replacing at just under £200.
The car has never suffered any issues and was running very well.
They said I could phone customer care if I wanted, so in the end they agreed to change it FOC.
On the way home the car went into limp mode and would cut out on junctions, To get it home I had to use manual gear change and keep the revs above 1500rpm. The car wont idle for more than a few seconds before uniing limpy and cutting out.

Not sure whats happened but dissapointed that I took a perfectly good car in and it came out like this. They suggested calling Volvo breakdown at first. Now they are coming to have a look tomorrow. I am expecting its not our fault conversation.
Would thish be the EMAP sensor causing this?

Not had this problem but seen it reported in forum threads to cause hesitation and slight 'misfire' symptoms.

If this is a VEA the the recent 'deforming manifold' recall including cleaning of the EMAP and TMAP sensor assemblies (which I had assumed meant that the associated pipe was cleaned).

Looks like it was that recall as they specifically looked at the EMAP tube.

It is the VEA engine, but D3 version, as it was introduced just as I placed the order for the car in May 2015 so I was informed by the salesman at the time.

Lets see what they say shortly when the arrive to look at the car.

Good luck, but it already sounds like Volvo are supporting you with this.

Maybe that pipe was almost blocked and the sensor cleaning actually made it worse?

£200 seems a lot for a stubby little pipe that's easy to get to!

Well,
Volvo assist has just taken the car back to the dealer. It looks like a sticky EGR valve. It showed up 2 faults,EGR and the EMAP sensor

He got it running by the old method of hitting it with a screwdriver handle.

I cant see Volvo paying for this, even with all the EGR problems. Could be a change of car coming.

My EGR valve stuck open over a year ago (when the car was less than 4 years old) and made the car undriveable... the dealer also found the EGR cooler was almost blocked and so replaced that as well. I got 50% Volvo goodwill on the valve replacement and 100% goodwill on the cooler (which fortunately also covered all the labour costs associated with the valve replacement as they come off together, then get separated) so I was fairly happy, but I'm not sure if that's still on offer now the cars are over 5 years old?

If you're handy there's a very good YouTube vidclip on cleaning the valve...

LOL. I worry about that too, but mine's been OK for over a year now (although it did have a new intake manifold/swirl valve assembly recently). I like to think that the recall work software updates have reduced the likelihood of a recurrence?

It really is a nice car otherwise!

Default EMAP pipe

Good afternoon. I'm half way through cleaning the EGR and cooler, Inlet manifold and associated pipoes and gubbins. The EGR wasn't too bad and has cleaned up nicely. The inlet manifold is one sticky mess, The swirl vaes alone are over twice the thickness due to the carbon and oil buildup.
The question is.. Has any member actualy removed and cleaned the EMAP pipe (part number 31431101) personaly? I ask because access is looking more than a bit of a challenge and not straightforward due to heat shields.
Thank you
