I have a 2001 convertible and the rear window has detached (and the rest of the roof isn't great either).

In a scrapyard near me there is 2005 convertible with a good roof, so I am thinking of doing a switch.

I am aware that there might be complications to do with recalibration, but to get me started can someone help me navigate in VIDA to find the info that ITSV40 mentioned?

Thanks

Steve, here you go.

My copy of VIDA is 2014D

Define vehicle.

Information.

Repair.

Removal, Replacement and Installation.

General.

Convertible System.

Then you will find 21 sub-headings on the convertible hood. It should cover all you need. I understand from a couple of facebook groups that changing the hood completely can work without any re-calibration - basically the car doesn't realise the hood has been changed - other times it is necessary to re-calibrate.

Hope this helps.
Ian.

Hi Ian

Excellent thanks. A whole new world of useful info!

In my version VIDA2014D it is under
8 Body and Interior
83 Doors and lids
Convertible system
Replacing and adjusting the convertible top unit

(Function group 83 is the quick way back).

I wonder how long the job will take (in the scrappie).

Steve

My only contribution is to say, these roofs weigh an absolute ton.

I’ve replaced a convertible top on an E30 BMW with a power top and a complete frame swap on a 2004-era Vauxhall’s Astra. It was the Astra’s that was the shock. You need two of you to lift it off. They bolt/clap down at the rear and it is the frame that weighs a shocking amount. And the C70 is a much bigger beast than the Astra!

Good luck, keep us posted.

It is a two man job! A chappie on facebook has just done a roof swap and recons it was 80mins start to finish - remove old roof, fit new one and adjust - including a tea break. That was some going!

Hi

I would be very pleased if I could do even just the removal in 80 minutes (two man).

It has taken me longer than that just to read the instructions, and I am still not 100% clear.

If you swap the whole roof you should make sure you also take the ECU (from the o/s rear inner wing) however it is more than likely that it will still need to be re-caliberated to work properly and for that you need the old Volvo VST2000 scan too - VIDA can't do it. Not sure how many, if any, dealers still have that?

If you knew who he was you could offer him dealer rate if it's an 80 min job and it works.....

He currently has a good roof for sale for £150 and will fit and adjust for £80.
