My local Volvo dealership which has been there since I moved here in 2005, switched to Nissan and FIAT in 2017. Volvo is now a "specialist" service. My guess is, they know their way around the cars with the mechanics who are still there but software updates ??? I do servicing myself now or via a (none ex-dealer) specialist. My car is 2011, long since out of warranty, software updates are pretty much irrelevant now and the map website no longer offers updates. I take that as an admission the car is over a certain age (c.7) and are pretty much done. I think in your situation you have no choice but to persevere with the dealer network and Köln with a known issue until advised otherwise.

Just collected my XC60 from Shrewsbury Volvo, they've serviced, reset the warning light and MoTed it. Still quoting £680 to change the EGR cooler. Now waiting for them to contact Volvo for extended goodwill, auto goodwill computer says "No". 😂😂

Lay it on thick with them, about it being a known issue, that you bought volvo for reliability etc etc |

Yes I contacted Volvo CS in January when fault light first came on. Whilst not admitting anything they did say that the dealer should contact them when I took the car in. After resetting the light it was trouble free until July although lockdown played its part!
All of this was explained to both service and reception when the car went in for service and mot. Anyway I told them I was not paying and wanted it done foc. The lovely young lady in reception said to leave it with her. Car's due in tomorrow for cooler replacement foc! I second Craig's advice, keep pushing and stand your ground. This is the second cooler replacement, perhaps 30k until the next. 😂😂

This is a problem in the software itself,I have all the new EGR parts,
I have tested the program on ECM and CEM,programs are not compatible with each other, and this is a Volvo mistake, they made a crooked program so the engine could overheat, they wanted to remove one error, but now there are many errors with the crooked program, volvo know about it but are silent ,it is only necessary to do it through a lawyer so that the repair is at the expense of Volvo |

This is a really random question....
In my ownership my car has had a replacement EGR Cooler and work done FOC, and subsequently an E-MAP Pipe and EGR Work done FOC, however, there seems to be another issue which happens to rear its head. After each of the two repairs being carried out to the EGR/Cooler I have had "Alarm Service Required" messages appearing. The first time when it had the EGR Cooler replaced the Alarm service was on when I picked up the car from the dealer, raised it with them, but when they went back to the car the message was gone and no faults were showing. The problem was intermittent but slowly got worse until I took the car for its Service in February, where they said it was a replacement lock unit. This cured the situation. Then my car goes in for the EMAP Pipe and associated work (which included EGR Work), I drive it home, park it up for a couple of days, and the next time I get in the car, the "Alarm Service Required" message is back again. Either there is a big coincidence going on, or I speculate that when they are draining coolant from the car to get access to the EGR/Cooler, some of that coolant has managed to get into the electronics of the alarm system, causing a short and resulting in the error message. Not sure which is more likely |

Hi
Firstly this forum is fantastic and I've got some great info from it My car is affected by the EGR issue and they literally turned around and said they would offer nothing. Its done 108k I bought it privatly a month ago but looking through the records it has has previous EGR issues and a cooler replacement which I don't thik ever sorted the issue out. Volvo response is the goodwill is discretionary based on age, mileage and loyalty. How do they measure my loyalty and potentially lose any firther business with them Pretty miffed as it needs EGR, Cooler and EMAP pipe over 1k worth of work!! |

Hi Ducks
Welcome to forum and sorry to hear about your problems... Before you spill money for parts, check following video about EGR cleaning:
Also, there was discussion of the forum (can't find thread at this moment) about cleaning EMAP pipe. BR |

Has it got full Volvo service history? That's probably the best indicator of loyalty, albeit from the previous owner(s) which may carry over? I'd expect there to be a mileage limit on goodwill claims. I don't want to add to your concerns, but if it is a VEA engine then the cambelt should have been replaced by now, as the original 144k mile interval was reduced to 90k a while ago.
