Default Hydraulic Fluid

Dropping my wife's car off this morning for a service with my local mechanic - 2004 1.8SE.

He's aked me to double check which hyrdaulic fluid is in the transmission and if it's mineral based.

He did tell me last night it was green in colour and he was was expecting it to be red.
[ or was it red and he was expecting green?]

Yes, I've forgotten already

He's also looking forward to the pollen filter change!!

Any help much appreciated.

i am a little bit unsure of which car you have as you say a 2004 1.8 S40, and its posted in the V50 New S40 forum. However, according to my parts catlogue there is no new shape S40 2004 1.8. So from my point of view its either the last of the older shape S40 (V40 style) 1.8, or its a 2005 new shape S40. Also, i assume you are on about automatic transmission, though they dont list an auto box for the new shape S40 2005 1.8 model.. so im a bit confused to be honest.

Only volvo gearbox oil should be used, i have no info about these oils at all to hand, but can give you the correct part numbers.

Classic Shape:
>2004 1.8 Manual Transmission = 1161423 (1l)
>2004 1.8 Auto Transmission = 1161540 (1l) or 1161640 (4l)

New shape:
2005 1.8 Manual Transmission = 1161723 (1l) or 1161724 (4l)
2005 1.8 Auto Transmission = not applicable
(in the new shape S40 1.8 only the manual (MTX75) gearbox is listed for this car.

If you want to supply me your reg in a pm then i can look into it further for you tomorrow.

Simon
