Default v50 front headlights manual adjustor ceasing

My 2004 v50 failed its Mot due to the headlight adjustor ceasing, when you try to adjust it the plastic breaks in your hand. The volvo dealer has told me I need a new headlight at £180 + and the other side has ceased also, though the positon of the light is ok at the moment. Anyone help as to what the options are, obviously Volvo Uk are not interested. The dealer said this is one of those things that they would not pick up on a service only a Mot when the car is out of warranty!

I had this on one of mine - It didn't get to an MOT before I replaced it though. I managed to find a replacement unit for £10 on ebay.

Before you adjust them, slide the units out and spray around the adjuster entry point into the unit with some lubricant. I think the rubber seals snag and cause too much torque to be applied to the plastic adjusters, causing the breakage.

Try ringing around a few salvage yards for some used units.
