Default Bad smell when turning wheel!

Ok, I just noticed something and as it's the weekend my dealer won't be open until Monday. When driving and I need to turn the wheel a "good bit", like a roundabout or puling into a tight parking spot; I get a whiff of a bad smell (not unlike a fart!). It only seems to last a few moments and it doesn't happen again for about 10 minutes (even if I turn the wheel in the meantime).

As it's hard to definitely reproduce, I feel like I'll be in the dealer trying to explain this and I won't be able to recreate it. When the smell does happen it does smell really bad but I wouldn't describe it as a burning smell.

Any ideas?

Sorry I can't offer any help but I have the same problem.

I have found it happening when I reverse after starting from cold, at least that's when it seems to happen most but I am turning the wheel at the same time (e.g. getting out of parking space).

I have spoken to my local Volvo dealer numerous times but they can't find anything wrong, although I haven't (well the car hasn't) been able to reproduce the sulphur smell when I'm there.

Mines a 55 plate S40 2.0D by the way.

Would it be possibe the power steering isnt working and the extra strees is causing an expelion of gas your your body lol

Sorry, constructive comments now, when power steering is operated the engine rev's increase slightly, wouldnt be exhaust fumes??

My Grandfather had something similar but when he investigated further he found out he had an ear infection! Depending on speed and turn etc when conering the air in the cabin moves around and he was getting a nasty wiff every now and then, however an ear infection should not smell like a fart lol.
Sounds or should I say smells like it could be the smell from the cat (sulpher rotten egg smell).

re: NI Volvo Nut

The smell has only just started happening. I've had the car about 2 years and first noticed the smell about 3 months ago, which makes me think something has gone wrong somewhere.

I thought it was probably a Cat issue but it has been serviced and had its first MOT last week and they reported no problems!

Still haven't managed to get around to going to the dealers as I can't be sure it will be a problem when I'm there and it's a pain to take time off work. Mine is a S40 D5.

After very careful assessment I'm fairly sure my ar*e isn't the source :-)
