Default XC90 Tailgate Lock

Hi
I am new to xc90 if anyone can help me i would be grateful
My tailgate cannot be locked, meaning that after locking the car i can still open the tailgate which triggers the alarm, when pressing the tailgate button on the remote I can hear noises from the relay. any idea where to start?

Question Adjustment?

Just a guess but if the tail gate has been adjusted too tight it may prevent the lock from fully closing. Couple of quick checks.
I would use a screwdriver shaft to fully close the lock whilst the tailgate is open and see if it locks then.
Also check the outer handle is free as they can stick in odd positions.
If it is not either of those then I suggest remove the boot trim and see what is going on as you can hear the solenoid working.
Hope this helps.
