Radio - De-tuning?!
Hello,
I've got a 55 plate s40 sport and have had no problems until this weekend. I preset stations into my car about a month ago i.e. Radio 1 on button 1. This weekend while driving around the radio stations keep detuning and retuning themselves, its normally 0.1 up or down, i.e. i'm listening to Radio 1 on 99.5 with perfect reception and it will detune itself by jumping up to 99.6 or down to 99.4, sometimes it rights itself other times I have to press the 1 button again. This happens every 30 seconds or so. Is this a common problem? Noone has tampered with my aerial, or at least I don't think so. Also I noticed that even when my screen wash is full I get a low screen wash warning every four or five times I start the car!!! Any help would be greatly appreciated - cheers! Ian |

My 55 plate V50 seemed to loose it's settings about 6 moths ago. NOthing definite, but would not seem to hold a station.
I'm not sure that I may have caused the problem myself, as I hit the factory default reset buton in one of the menus. Would this have negated any software updates for the radio? It was recommended to me to clean the inside rear window (where the arial is). I did this but no real obvious improvement. |

Are you sure this is not the normal RDS system working ? ( scanning transmitters and locking on to the one offering strongest signal )? Have you suddenly started to move around the county a lot especialy up and down those valleys with their repeaters ? When the frequency does change do you still hear the station you were tuned to?

It's not that the station drops out or goes completely, but there is a degradation of signal with noise in the background. Retuning generally brings it back. In terms of journeys, no change really. As an engineer I travel all over the south and East with occasional forays to the midlands. As I said, all of this seemed to occur after I hit the reset default option in one of the menus. |
