Smile 2nd Service for V50 1.6D

My 2nd 25,00 mile service is looming. In thies ehard time si ewnquired at my friendly suppling dealer - Lipscomb Aylesford, Kent and was quoted £330.

I was a good boy and did as I had read on this forum and shopped around.

I enquired at Hildenborough Volvo and was quoted £245 for same service - both included car/collection delivery if needed.

Went back to Lipscomb and they have agreed "on this occasion" to match the price.

I am little happiier - still seems quite a bit though but one call has saved me £90!

Just thought I would share this small bit of positive news and thank everyone for the advice on this forum.

there is nothing of course stopping you going to an independant dealer, this will not invalidate your warranty AS LONG AS the dealer uses genuine volvo parts, and, is v.a.t registered.

Try Macnaughton Ross at Ticehurst. They will be approx £80+ cheaper for any service than Lipscomb and the guys on the service desk are infiniately more helpful and knowledgeable. They are also linked to HIldenborough as part of same group, but a smaller dealer, so normally beat Hildenborough too.

I live two miles from Lipscomb Maidstone, and yet I'm prepared to travel the 19 miles to Macnaughton Ross, for the price as well as service.

I should add that I've no connection with MR other than being a satisfied customer.

Are you sure you don't loose the warranty when servicing at independent dealer ? I have been told I must use authorized Volvo dealers/service to not to loose warranty !
Independent services are usually cheaper so this is interesting info.

The rules were changed a number of years ago regarding this, and as has been said an Independant can service your car and stamp the book without affecting your warranty on the basis that OE or = spec components / fluids are used.

Alot of folk are still "green" to this, and equally when trading in a car or selling a full dealer history is still perceived as being better than just full history.

My company Mondeo 55plate always goes to Nationwaide Auto centres rather than Ford as part of it's lease deal the times it did go to Ford the service was very poor IMO
