Default Super unleaded

Put it in my '98 V70R auto yesterday and noticed a definite difference in fuel consumption. It's definitely more economical. Whether it's enough to off set the 4p per litre price difference, I'll know when I've used up the whole tank. I think she's a little more responsive on the throttle too. Win win!

Shouldn't you always be using super in an R anyway? But I know what you mean, I've always noticed a difference, except in my ST220. The manual says using super will make no difference, and it didn't.

I only bought the car a couple of months ago and didn't even consider it until I read another thread on here! Definite difference though. I hope normal unleaded hasn't done any damage? Surely not? Thanks for commenting!

The increase in performance is down to the placebo effect. I find mine does this as well when running on it.

I'd have to disagree! Both my wife and I find that our 2003 C70 T5 is both more economical and definitely sharper (and smoother) in performance terms when using BP Ultimate, but there is absolutely no discernible difference if we use Ultimate in our V50 T5 instead of Tesco's best.

Same, The S60 liked Tesco 99, and feels "ok" on Esso 97, wouldn't try 95 though. Me old 528i, placebo perhaps on performance or responsiveness, but defo better mpg, and the ST220 was proven on the forums not to be any different unless it had some serious tuning done, otherwise 95 all way.
On a slightly different tangent, I even found a difference about 7 years ago in NZ, I had a caltex fuel card and was running 95, I'd misplaced my card when I HAD to fill up so went to Shell, again only 95 but my mpg was noticeably better. So I tried caltex again, back down, Shell, back up, changed fuel cards in the end, I would expect 95 to be 95 where ever I get, especially in NZ where we only have 1 refinery, but clearly whatever additives Caltex put in were ****e, too much detergent is my guess.

I heard on the grapevine that, tesco 99 uses a lot of additives to get the 99 octance. Where shell 99 is "made" to be 99 with no additives.

On the other hand, I've also heard that they both come from the same place and that they're identical...

I know most re-mapped cars are advised to run on 97+ to make the most of the remap!

Also - I've only just remembered that if you have a car that runs on leaded fuel (like mine), then if you use the high octane unleaded stuff, you don't need the lead replacement additive.

I still use the additive with normal 95 octane to be on the safe side!

When I referred to "Tesco's best" in my post above, I should have explained that in Belfast the 99 octane isn't available so it's just the regular Tesco unleaded that I was speaking about. "Tesco's best" was a figure of speech and not to be taken literally!

Oh right, you are a brave man then, I would only put Tescos regular in my lawnmower.
