Did you manage to get the tensioner to tension the belt correctly?

First I loosen the nut. Then I push a nail into that thingy that’s inside that spring in that tensioner. And then remove it vice versa?

The nail is used to hold the tensioner back to make life easier when changing the belt, i'd forgotten about that. Removing the nail should allow the tensioner to spring out and tension the belt correctly, you may have to loosen the locknut and help it if it's stuck.

That belt in your video was seriously loose, almost as bad as my 740 belt was when i had similar problems.

It wasn’t this loose when I removed that belt. I didn’t stress that belt at all. I didn’t even do much to that belt. It has to be that tensioner that’s stuck or some black magic

To be absolutely clear, the spring is only used during the adjustment process.

You lossen the nut, let the spring move it then tighten it again.

Give the engine 2 turns turning only 1 direction (don't pull it back to get it spot on). Lossen and tighten the nut again.

The purpose is to get the 'pulling' side of the belt tight, then taking up the slack with the tensioner, so that when the engine is slowing down the belt doesn't go loose and jump teeth.

Make sure you are turning the engine in the direction it normally rotates.

What Tony said ^^^^^ but if you didn't retension after 1000km then the belt will stretch.

Either way you'll need a new belt now but to get it going and prove the point, you need to loosen the locknut on the tensioner and make sure it moves out to tension the belt, if not find out why.

As for black magic, did you buy the car from a witch doctor? If not, i wouldn't worry about it!

That said, have you ever seen the film "Christine"? It's the right colour!

I’ll just buy a new belt and fit a new tensioner and maybe find a new spring aswell

And the timing on crankpulley is way out of specs on the marking on the case. It’s because we just adjusted the timingmarks. So can I just change the positioning on the pulley to correct timingmarks without moving the crankshaft? just a question.

My luck is nowhere to be found. Bad luck. B230FD gods wants me to fail. I see.

Well there’s nothing I can do today. I have to get a new belt and refit a new tensioner :/

I think new tensioners come with new springs as part of the deal - definitely does if you buy a Gates kit from Rock Auto :

https://www.rockauto.com/en/parts/ga...onent+kit,5759

https://www.rockauto.com/en/moreinfo...433978&jsn=410

Couple of pages of info there. It's plain to see what's happened, the fulcrum pin has detached itself from the tensioner allowing it to move and release the tension on the timing belt.

Lucky i started waffling on about cam timing being wrong i reckon!

Dave, you’re a savior 👍🏻

As far as I know, B230 engines are none-interference. But if it’s two camaxles. Valves may be interference.

But since the crank pulley doesn’t line up with the markings on the cover. How do I change that so it lines up? Can I just change position on the pulley? But there’s only one way it fits on that cranksprocket? Do i just make new timingmarks since camshaft is now adjusted correctly and crankshaft aswell. But without lining up on the cover?

Hope this problem is laid to bed once we have replaced the belt, tensioner and spring.
I’ll buy it if I can’t get hands on a kit today
