2003 Volvo V70 D5 AWD - to scrap or to repair?

Personally i would bin it, sounds like an impending money pit. Put the money into another bangernomics car with full MOT. Unless you are wedded to Volvo or a specific brand then something like a Mondeo or Avensis could give you a couple of years with little expense beyond and usual insurance/RFL. At the end of the day its an old car that will not be a classic/collectors car anytime soon.

Is it definitely the core seal and not the turbo return pipe seal? You need to be able to get under the car clean all the oil off and re examine after a run.
I originally thought my seal had gone untill I got it up in the air and had a good look, turned out it was the turbo return pipe.

I agree - a bit more research needed first I think

The way I would look at it is this:

You could spend £1000 on repairing it and get another 2 years out of it. Or, you could spend the same or more on another vehicle - with who knows what faults?

You KNOW this car, you dont know the next 2nd hand car....

I have a transit van which is worth about £800 now, but I have spent that in the last two years keeping it on the road - why? Because it will cost me at least 2-3k to get a new one - with its hidden problems - at least I know the good bad and ugly with this one...
