General: - ceramic coating

Hi Guys,

Well to day I have just had my cars paint work wheels and all glass ceramic coated its not the first time last time it was the Williams product but it only lasted around a year this time i have had the five year treatment done by RS Auto Gleam part of the GSF company , first they washed the car then cleaned and dressed the alloy wheels , next it was machine polished 1 stage , next it was the first stage of the ceramic coating 10Hhardness, then wheel faces ceramic coating next was to do all the windows .

Wow the shine is just so bright and my Volvo XC60 is White its better than new just love it ok the cost was £449.00 but yes its wort it .

That process is very popular on the Ford Ranger forums. Not quite sure if that's because it's proven to be hard wearing or the Ford factory paint is so bad but everyone who has it done is very positive about it.

My early 60's LR S2a is an automotive 'triggers broom' rusting for Britain. Might give it a try just to make the corrosion sparkle

Did they do the inside of the wheels?

That's where the corrosion on my xc wheels started and spread to the front under the paint.

I'm in the early stages of researching/purchasing doing this process for myself.

I need to get a Rupes DA polisher, all the pads and compounds etc. From my research although the process looks a bit scary it's actually quite hard to damage your clear coat (burn through) etc and there's always the option of starting with paint 'enhancement' which is still a machine polish but less invasive - this is where I'll start I think.

Modern Factory paint is actually quite poor when you look at it, there's a bodyshop next door at work where a customer brought a brand new Golf in to have the clear coat wet-sanded

and polished because he wasn't happy with the 'orange peel' type texture from the factory.
