I was in the kind of mood where I was thinking of just leaving it there and getting the train and then telling the dealer that it was their problem....

Plenty of hills in Newport too....

I know it's only a few days, but have you had any more issues since?

Touch wood no problem since. I did try and start this morning and it said "system check please wait", I waited 10 secs and turned to start again and the gear selector came up as normal, so I assume that is not related.

Keep us posted sure. Hopefully that software update has sorted it.

Last thing I want is to have to move car seats in a rush some morning after we get our T8!

Pull it out. Wait 5 mins. Put it back in. Should clear the problem. Read upthread and you will understand.

Default T8: Random failures to start

Had the same problem with my T8. (why does it always seem to happen at the weekend?). Within 2 months of delivery it failed to start (symptoms as described by Philip F) leaving me stranded in Norfolk. The car was taken to a Volvo dealer in Cambridge (further than Volvo Assistance's 50 mile limit, but that is a whole other story) who reinstalled the software and road tested the car. The same thing happened again out of the blue less than 2 months later. The attending mechanic reset it by removing one of the battery leads. Another software reinstallation beckons....It looks like cars will be as reliable as computers at this rate i.e not!

You need to get it in for the new software patch and that will supposedly fix it. The Technical Service Bulletin and the patch were released around 20th April so any supposed fix before then wont have fixed the problem. The patch after this date should fix it (we hope). To be safe i have spent 3 pounds96 on a 13mm and 10mm spanner from Amazon. These live in the boot and can be used to carry out a user reset (by battery disconnection) which clears all sorts of problems including this one. From experience you need to pull the positive lead and should pull the negative first for safety. Just pulling the negative lead does not work.
