Start Prevented Try Again error message s60
2001 s60 t5 got the error message 'Start Prevented Try Again' for the first time. Car dead no turnover first attempt or two, checked net for advice one person said something about check hood shut properly, seemed unlikely it would be this but thought give it a try as I had had bonnet opened day before, so opened it and slammed shut to make sure incase it was somehow linked to immobilizer. Turned over but did not fire up. After a few attempts it did start up.
What is likely to be the issue here? Quite worrying if it happened in bad situation and won't start. First time ever I have had this message. At first I double/triple checked the auto box was in park as obviously this is designed not to start unless in park. I thought maybe it was something to do this feature. Any ideas? Can't be doing with a fault like that occurring. Imagine sitting in traffic jam and switching off the engine and it won't restart or as another poster mentioned he was blocking petrol pump Q at Asda. What is the procedure if it happens again? Is there a way to disable the immobilizer incase it ever happens again in remote place? |

My 2001 S60 had the same message last week after being left for 36 hours. It wouldn't start with a jump pack, then went completely dead so called out Volvo Assist.
The agent who came out said there's been a spate of non starts and he was told by Volvo to advise to turn off the internal movement sensors (or whatever it's called) using the button on the bottom panel below the temperature controls. I've done this and it's been ok since but I don't quite understand how doing this would get rid of the problem, however, the alarm service message I've been getting has gone away now. |

If you google the problem people seem to suggest replacing the antenna ring inside the ignition barrel. When I had this problem and opened the bonnet there seemed to be a high pitch whistling noise coming from somewhere. No idea if this was related or where it was coming from. |

I've come across the antenna problem and, I'm pretty sure that the engine will turn over if it was faulty. It just wouldn't fire.

Volvo Assist came within the cost of the service at Volvo dealer. They were cheaper than the local Indy and the Assist was a welcome add on.
No codes read as the agent who attended was just a local firm. I may get them read after Xmas as I haven't got a code reader. The antenna problem should only prevent the car firing up. Mine was dead. I was getting the alarm service message before the problem but this has now gone away. |

I will try pressing that button. I get that alarm service message, but I thought that was a very common problem and is due to the backup battery inside the siren being finished and then corroding the circuit board. |
