D5 Oil Filter
Just changed the oil in my 2005 S60 D5 but hit a snag after draining the oil!! Couldn't find the oil filter removal socket i bought the other day, tried everything else i could think of, including a strap, but wouldn't budge. Unfortunately couldn't do without car and, having no way of getting replacement, had to refill with new oil leaving the old filter in. Now i'm wondering, given the location of the filter, would it be possible to change it on it's own without redoing the oil?
Thanks for any thoughts. Dee |

My D5 Oil Filter is the cartridge type and a 36mm socket removes the top cover exposing the filter element. A 36mm socket with an extension bar should have been more than enough to remove the top cover unless yours is different.

Given the position of the D5 filter, you shouldn't lose any oil at all. It sticks up, the oil drains down out of the chamber. The only disadvantage of doing it now is that the dirty filter may have discoloured your new oil, but no big deal.

if you can't find the socket a large adjustable spanner works

Don't forget to smear a bit of oil around the rubber ring! I didn't the once which resulted in an oil slick down my road resembling a miniature version of the Gulf of Mexico last year

I thought this D5 had the filter underneath the car at the same location. |

Nope, it's VERY accesible facing upwards towards you as soon as you lift the bonnet. NO oil loss and no crawling around underneath
